Spoken English Certificate Course

Our spoken English course is specially designed for those who want to improve their oral communication in English. This will ideally suit you if you are employed, planning to get employed in near future, or managing your own business.

Aim:

The aim of this spoken English course is to develop the students’ spoken communication skills with the correct use of grammar.

This is a basic course where we start from the introduction level. The lecturer will discuss with the students to get an idea of their level of English and pay individual attention accordingly. 

Intended learning outcomes:

• Frame grammatically correct sentences in English.
• Fluently speak in English in any situation.
• Participate at higher levels in Group Discussions and meetings.
• Able to present your thoughts more effectively.
• Present yourself more confidently in personal interviews.
• Participate at higher levels in Group Discussions and meetings.
  Speak in a Neutral Accent and also pick up UK/US Accent

Summary of the Content in Our Spoken English Course

Phonology of English

1. To enable the students to acquire phonetic skills required for oral skills.
2. To give ear training to students to help them to listen to sounds that are not there in their regional languages.
3. To acquaint the students with the phonological structure of modern English.
4. To orient the students to word accents and speech rhythm and spoken English.

Conversation in English

1. To improve the communicative competence of the students
2. To enable the students to converse in their life situations
3. To train the students to use English for practical purposes.

Basic English Grammar

1. To acquaint learners with the modern English Usage
2. To take remedial steps to correct the errors that enter the learner’s Language System while learning English as a foreign language.
3. To make them aware of the peculiarities English language.

Basics of communication

Public speaking skills

• Extempore and Group discussion

Teaching Methods

Lectures, seminars, workshops, group assignments, and individual assignments.

Examination – tests and forms

Students will be graded on the completion on Distinction, Merit, Pass, or Fail basis, with the possibility to improve and re-submit the assignments on the two re-sit dates in an occasion where he/she fails at the first attempt.
Evaluation will be done by written exam and practical exam.

Registrations are now available in 2023 for our Spoken English course. Anyone can join our online class whether they live in any part of Sri Lanka. But those who are living in Kandy around, he/she can join our campus for physical classes.
